Hunter Promise Program Overview

More than nearly half of Hunter's population consists of transfer students - students who began their academic journey elsewhere. Recognizing that every academic path is unique, we created the Hunter Promise Program to better support our future transfer students.

Steps to Join Hunter Promise

2+2 Pathway
  1. Complete an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) Degree in an Eligible Major:
    • Enroll at one of our CUNY or SUNY partner colleges.
    • Choose an eligible major from the list below.
  2. Participate in Required Workshops:
    • Attend workshops during your freshman and sophomore years that prepare you for transfer success, including academic planning, time management, and career readiness.
  3. Transfer into the same eligible Bachelor of Arts (BA) at Hunter College:
    • Apply as a transfer student during your final semester of the associate degree program.
    • Ensure your intended major at Hunter aligns with your associated degree program.
  4. Meet GPA and Program Requirements:
    • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in your associate degree program.
    • Fulfill any program-specific requirements outlined by the Hunter Promise Program.

Hunter Promise Scholarship Eligibility:

Students who achieve a 4.0 GPA in their associate degree program will be awarded a Hunter Promise Scholarship to support their studies at Hunter.

Alternative Transfer Pathway

The Alternative Transfer Pathway provides a flexible option for students who may not wish to follow the structured Hunter Promise Program (2+2 Pathway) or whose academic interests fall outside the eligible majors. This pathway allows students to transfer to Hunter College at their own pace, regardless of their major.

Highlights of the Alternative Transfer Pathway:

  • Open to students pursuing any major in the School of Arts & Sciences at Hunter College, not just those listed in the Hunter Promise Program (2+2 Pathway).
  • Flexible transfer timeline - apply when you're ready to transfer.
  • Guaranteed admission to Hunter's School of Arts & Sciences for students who:
    • Complete an Associate's of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree.
    • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Africana & Puerto Rican/Latino Studies (BA)
  • Ancient Greek (BA)
